Curtains and Chandeliers

Stepping into my penthouse is almost like entering a different era. Despite the white walls and built –in furniture, I transformed my abode into a souvenir sanctuary- a home to me and my husband. Walking into the foyer and extensive living area is like visiting a palace.

You can’t help but notice the chandelier suspended over the dining table. Though old world in spirit, our home is not far behind in terms of modern amenities. Our lights-thoroughly modern- were purchased on discount through a friend. The crystal chandeliers looks so elegant in the living room. The glowing atmosphere that is similar to a candlelight adds instant glamour to the room. Chandeliers really sets the tone and a great focal point for a room. Curtains made of rich fabrics from Bangladesh, Thailand, laos and India are hanging on different part of my house. Since no structural interventions could be made on the unit, we had to cleverly arrange the interiors to create a look all our own.

I believe that if you want a unique place, you must invest time and allow things to happen on their own.

Choosing the right living room set

We just moved in from this house we recently bought. When we moved in here, everything was already in place. Abstract shapes-a squat Japanese lamp, tall and a minimalist painting create layers of contrast in the corner of the living room.

The only thing we need to change is our living room set. It doesn’t look good for both of us that is why we agreed to change it. Since we love to stay here to relax and have a bonding moment, we really want it to look more comfortable since we spend more time here. My husband and I had a little discussion while looking for a perfect couch for our living room. We had an argument about the size of the sofa: he wanted to have a sofa bed and I couldn’t figure out what difference the extra space it would make. The rest is history as the couch sits in the middle of our home.

A black painting serves as a focal point in the clutter-free living room. If it were up to me, I would add even more pillows.

Space saver tips

I am pretty open-minded about design. I’m still young and I like to experiment. In choosing the best design, I get inspiration from traveling and also through looking at different magazines and stores. These gives me a visual memory. I take note of what I want and see if I can use it in the future. I wanted to lean towards the modern, but in a romantic way. My space is uniquely my own. Since I don’t have a big space to put all my favorite furniture and fixtures in my room, I try to redecorate it and put all things in place where it should be.

My bedroom is clean and simple, with a low, white bed and white side tables to match. Circular lamps flank besides and Hong kong bought rugs offer texture to the sparsely furnished room. I also had the shelf attached on my wall for my favorite collection, it was really a space saver since I don’t have any room for them.

Simple bachelor’s pad

When single young men move into their new homes, expect them to bring only the basics: a bed, a television set and a couch. They don’t bother with kitchenware and never really care much for accessories. My younger brother almost fits the bill. In his bedroom, there is nothing but a bed and a console with our family picture.

His walls reveal his passion for music and bands. He got his friend who is an interior design student to help him spruce up the place. They went to the rounds of furniture stores, getting a dining set and a sofa bed for the den. It took them four months to finish since they don’t have a battle plan. He changed the color of the living room, before it was brick red now it was green and yellow. He had the whole living room carpeted so visitors would be more comfortable to sit.
